Characterization of the comprehensive care of pregnant women admitted to the maternity home

Abstract: Introduction: Maternal homes are created in Cuba, by the Ministry of Public Health, with the purpose of achieving institutional delivery in those pregnant women who, because they live in places of difficult access and with limited means of transportation, find it difficult to go to the hospital. to characterize the comprehensive care of pregnant women admitted to the Justo Legón Padilla regional maternity home in Pinar del Río, in the year 2022. an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was constituted by 2368 pregnant women admitted, a non-probabilistic sample of 1539 pregnant women was selected. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, by reviewing medical records and applying a survey, as well as descriptive statistics. there was a predominance of pregnant women between 20 and 34 years of age (87.5%), with a pre-university school level (51.4%), marital status, cohabitation (38%); from rural and difficult access areas, mostly primigravidae (49.8%), normal weight (52%), smoking was the most frequent toxic habit, the main reasons for admission were: geographic income, poor weight gain, being an adolescent, risk of prematurity and anemia. the regional maternity home admits pregnant women who require comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary team, developing actions that contribute to achieving a satisfactory pregnancy, improving the indicators of the Maternal and Infant Program.
