The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the search for mental health services at the Eurnekian Ezeiza hospital

Abstract: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was an international public health crisis and presented a serious mental health challenge. During the pandemic, there were many associated psychological changes, ranging from isolated symptoms to complex disorders with significant functional impairment, such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. An observational, descriptive, retrospective, quantitative and comparative study was carried out based on the patients of the Ezeiza Hospital who made psychiatric consultations in the period of June, July and August between 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, to find out about statistically and comparatively there was an increase in mental health consultations in pre and post pandemic. Through the study carried out, 1671 patients who made psychiatric consultations in the period of June, July and August between 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 at the Ezeiza Hospital were analyzed. The result was that in the period of 2019 I obtained a total of 210 consultations (12.56%), with 135 female patients and 75 male patients. In 2020, it resulted in 276 consultations (16.51%), being 143 female and 133 male. In 2021 there were 454 consultations (27.16%), being 243 female and 211 male, and in 2022 there were 731 (43.74%) patients seeking psychiatric consultations, being 276 female and 455 male. male. What turned out is that in the year 2022, in addition to having a large increase in consultations, it was the year with the most female and male patients. Through this study, there was an increase in the search for mental health services and it will be one of the most relevant effects of COVID-19 in the long term at the Ezeiza Hospital
