Caprine Family Farming: The PROSALAFA Model, Resilience and Sustainability

Abstract: This essay examines the trajectory of PROSALAFA in the semi-arid areas of Lara and Falcón, Venezuela, between 1993 and 2017. The project, with an innovative approach, sought to strengthen Caprine Family Farming (AFC) through training, technical assistance and economic support. Working with other entities and farmers, it aimed to raise the productivity and profitability of this traditional economic activity, implementing information and communication technologies and training rural extensionists. PROSALAFA valued local wisdom, and from a sociological approach, influenced the creation of other initiatives, such as those of the CIARA Foundation (Revista Espacios, 2000). The project left a deep mark on rural development in the region, boosting the economy and improving the quality of life in Lara and Falcón.
