Abstract:
This research study explores the impact of the decline in mining activity on migration decisions among the residents of Camargo, a Mexican mining community. Through semi-structured interviews with ten migrants who left Camargo in recent years, this study seeks to shed light on their perspectives regarding their connection to mining when they lived in Camargo, their perceptions of the decrease in mining activity in the community in recent years, and how the reduction of mining in Camargo influenced their personal decision to migrate. Besides, the study aims to gather suggestions from participants regarding alternative economic opportunities for Camargo beyond mining.
