Abstract:
The intervention project was aimed at the nursing staff of a hospital in the city of Rosario and its objective was to create a training space to standardize the Port Cath device. It was observed that the staff was performing this activity in a non-uniform manner, which put the health of patients and the durability of the device at risk. The proposal sought to unify techniques to prevent complications, improve care planning and benefit the patient, the healthcare team and the institution. Organizations such as the Argentine Society of Intensive Care (SATI) and the Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases (SADI) demonstrated the need for clear standards through studies that revealed an incidence of infections of 3.78 per 1000 days of catheter use. Although field work was not performed due to the sensitivity of the data, the lack of statistics and the vulnerability of patients were highlighted, which justified the need for this project. Treatment with Port Cath devices was considered essential in patients with chronic pathologies requiring prolonged vascular access. These devices have been shown to reduce complications, improve quality of life and optimize hospital costs. However, the lack of training and standardized protocols limited their effectiveness. The proposal included staff training in techniques based on scientific evidence and clear protocols, in line with national patient safety policies in Argentina. This approach reduced risks, improved care and optimized health system resources
