Level of knowledge in nursing care for the adequate hemodynamic support of the organ and tissue donor

Abstract: Introduction: The present study explored the level of nursing staff knowledge about the specific care required for hemodynamic support of the organ donor. This aspect is fundamental to guarantee the viability of the organs and to allow the donation and transplantation process to be completed. Likewise, the relevance of organ donation was considered as a solidary and altruistic act that promotes the survival of multiple people and reflects the donor's will in life. The research was carried out through the application of a survey directed to nurses working in intensive care units. This tool collected information about their knowledge and practices related to hemodynamic management of the organ donor. The analysis focused on identifying strengths and weaknesses in the mastery of this specific care. The study revealed a low level of knowledge among the staff surveyed on the topic investigated. This finding highlighted the need to implement training and refresher programs for nurses in critical care units. Improvement in this area has the potential to optimize the care provided to the donor and, consequently, increase success rates in organ transplantation. The results obtained highlighted the importance of continuing education in organ donor care within intensive care units. The implementation of educational strategies will not only benefit nursing staff in their professional development, but will also have a positive impact on patients, strengthening the chain of solidarity that characterizes the donation and transplantation process. This study reaffirmed the need to approach the subject from an integrative perspective and oriented to the collective benefit
