Paediatric Dentistry in Patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, a Psychological Approach

Abstract: Pediatric dentistry according to Cameron (2010) (1) is a specialty not based on a particular set of capabilities, but combines technical skills of dentistry, in a knowledge environment of child development in health and disease. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders of biological and neurological origin, characterized by persistent deficiencies in social communication and interaction in various contexts, language disorders and restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities. (DSM-5, APA 2013). (2) This paper aims to recognize the psychological approach of the patient with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Pediatric Dentistry through a systematic review based on previous studies and research presented digitally and identify protocols dental care. To carry out this research, methodological parameters were taken based on a search in Google Scholar, PubMed (MEDLINE), Research dimensions and articles that presented and evaluated techniques and modes of psychological approach of children with ASD. It should be noted that in the development of this work a number of factors are presented that together make up the central idea of this research, taking into account the pediatric dentistry and the Autism Spectrum Disorder as fundamental axes, in order to reach a conclusion.
