REFLECTIONS ON HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION: THE ISTANBUL CONVENTION AND ITS IMPACT IN ROMANIA

Abstract: This article provides an in-depth analysis of the European system for the protection of human rights, with a special focus on the Istanbul Convention and its implementation in Romania. Firstly, it explores the structure and mechanisms of the European human rights system, highlighting the essential role of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the Istanbul Convention as a key instrument in combating gender-based violence and domestic violence. The commitment and efforts of member states, including Romania, in adopting and applying its principles are examined.
