TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN IN ROMANI COMMUNITIES

Abstract: The paper intends to emphasize the graveness of human trafficking in Romani communities since in most of the cases it involves children. Human trafficking as a global issue is welcome but there is a danger of sensationalizing the issue, particularly when it comes to Roma. One must not make the mistake and consider any act of migration of Roma as trafficking, though, must not explain and consider trafficking as an act of voluntary migrations. Indeed, this makes it even more difficult for national and international bodies to identify cases of trafficking in Roma children. Members of the Romani communities are sometimes involved as traffickers, but this does not mean that Roma are somehow predisposed to inflicting these harms on themselves.
