Abstract: Recreational fishing on public lakes and rivers near Bucharest has recorded a significant decline in the last decade, the steady decline of the fish stock, poaching and pollution being the causes that have generated this negative trend. In this context, tourist traffic from Bucharest, as a result of recreational fishing, is mainly on private lakes which, by increasing the quality of tourist facilities, accessibility and tourism promotion, can be transformed into regional tourist destinations. The paper analyzes the tourist phenomenon (tourist potential, tourist facilities, tourist traffic) generated by recreational fishing, specific to the most representative private lakes in the administrative-territorial units surrounding Bucharest. The results show significant differences in the case of tourist traffic and accommodation capacity between private lakes located in Ilfov County and those in Giurgiu and Calarasi counties. The research used statistical data provided by INS, Romania and surveys conducted online on groups of recreational fishing in Bucharest.
