Dagestan State Pedagogical University. Journal. Social and Humanitarian Sciences, 2019

Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the phraseological units of the Chechen and Russian languages, which most clearly represent the linguistic picture of the world, to identify similarities and differences between them. The research material was obtained from lexicographical sources. The article uses descriptive and comparative methods of research, as well as methods of conceptual and semantic analysis. As a result of the study it was found that the cases of full (semantic, expressive and stylistic) correspondence between the phraseological units of the studied languages are extremely rare.Conclusions. Mutual connection between language and culture is confirmed at the phraseological level of language by the presence of ethnospecific phraseological units, the literal translation of which into the language of other cultural traditions causes great difficulties. On this basis, the untranslatability of idioms in the language of another culture can be described as a categorical characteristic of the idiom.
