Abstract: This study attempts to analyse the growth rates of area, production and yield of various crops in relation to the cropping pattern changes in the Punjab state during the period 1965-66 to 1990-91. The relative contribution of various components to the growth of crop output in the state has worked out by seven factor additive model suggested by Minhas. Aggregate changes in the cropping patterns in terms of 'Expansion' and 'Substitution' effects have been measured by calculating area-gross cropped area elasticities of various crops. Contribution of various crops in total returns due to cropping pattern changes during 1965-68 and 1988-91 has also been worked out.
