Estudios Economicos de Desarrollo Internacional, 2001, vol. 1, issue 2, 7-30

We present a comparison of economic development in Africa and main world areas during the 20th century, emphasizing the educative deficit as the main cause of excessive fertility and poverty of the majority of African areas. The article also analyses the levels of production by sector in different areas within Africa and points out the necessity of improving European and international cooperation on education expenditure and industrial development, as these measures are needed to avoid poverty and emigration in the next decades.
