Abstract:
This paper analyzes the female empowerment in Latin America from the perspective of the United Nations Human Development Reports. We attend the two indicators that measure women's empowerment in the Gender Inequality Index 2010-2011: educational attainment (secondary level and above) and parliamentary representation. We also show their decisive role in the reduction of these inequalities through an econometric model for a set of 20 selected countries.
