Abstract:
In the last few years much criticism has been laid upon the banking entities and especially the savings banks as a consequence of their actions in the period preceding the crisis and the years immediately thereafter. The situation that they have endured in our country has caused our authorities to carry out a profound renovation of the sector, after which the majority of the savings banks now realize their financial activity indirectly, occupying themselves almost primarily with the management of community welfare work. In this paper we hope to demonstrate the part this has contributed to an improved social cohesion, through a policy of equality of opportunities in benefit of the objective of the economic policy for improving the quality of life not only during the crisis but also in some years before as well.
