Abstract: This study aims to scrutinise the leadership style of Alija Izetbegovic in the context of intellectual leadership which is one of the leadership understandings of our time. In this study which has employed qualitative research methods, discourse analysis has bee used as a data collection method. Within the scope of the research Izetbegovic's books along with books, articles, dissertations, documentaries about him have been used for discourse analysis. A major limitation of the study is that face to face interviews were not conducted due to limited resources and also due to the fact that Izetbegovic is not alive. The study asserts that Izetbegovic has leadership characteristics. It has also been stated that these characteristics have come to the forefront while he was leading his people. The study also endeavours to outline the characteristics that a contemporary ideal leader should possess.
