Abstract: In this study, first reading and writing teaching methods were investigated. In our country the 2005 Program of the Ministry of Education changed the long time used reading and writing teaching method from "analysis (sentence) method" to "sound based sentence method". This study includes the first reading and writing methods Synthesis method, letters (alphabet) method, the sound (phonetic) method, the syllable method, analysis method, the word method, the sentence method (analysis) method, the story (text) method, mixed ( eclectic) given method; especially the "resolution (sentence) method" and "sound based sentence method" is discussed in detail in conjunction with their steps. Also the study contains some interesting research on the subject. The qualitative research method document review was used in this research study. The literature review was conducted by accessing resources and data relevant to the research. Books, theses and reports related to the study are examined and the data obtained was tried to be integrated in a systematic manner. Evaluation was made by associating findings and by creating judgements.
