Abstract: On of the intersections of folk literature undoubtedly lover and the problems he brings. At the beginning of the problems of the lovers other lovers namely rival come first. Rivals are competitors, foreigners, others, someone elses and bad people. The rival gives false information to the lover, prevents the lover from seeing the beloved, lies to the lover, hurts him and ect. Rivals also, are obstacles fort he lovers who want to be close to the sweetheart. Creating jealousy and sedition between the lover and the beloved the rival is preventing their meeting and he is the most powerful enemy of a lover. According to the lover, the rival is sometimes one sometimes many.In this study, how the rival is represented is used in 17th century-poet Nefi’s Divan, and how the rival was reflected by him. It is the matter of curiosity that how the rival was described and named by Nef’i who used praise and the satire with exaggeration. Having a huge arrogance, while Nef’i was beating his enemies he thinks that regarding the rival as enemy would also be an honor for him. In conclusion, it was tried to shed light on how the socio-cultural folk items of classical literature were represented in Nefi Divan.
