The Regional Dimension of Economic Growth in Ukraine

Abstract: Regional asymmetries in Ukraine take the form of deep spatial divisions and gaps. Moreover, their evolutionary route has been influenced by the especially high growth rates of the Ukrainian economy during the first half of the 2000s and the deep recession of 2009-crisis. This paper explores the level of regional inequalities in Ukraine, detects the growth determinants in regions and investigates the spatial development pattern. The analysis shows that the 2009-crisis led the country into a transformational recession and a remodelling of its regional growth pattern.
