Abstract: The sustainability of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) − summer maize (Zea mays L.) rotation (W − M), which is commonly practiced in the North China Plain (NCP), is threatened by severe groundwater deficits and environmental pollution due to excessive nitrogen (N) applications.
