Abstract:
Maize is crucial for global food security. China's Golden Maize Belt is a major maize production area. However, the sustainability of maize production in this region faces challenges from high nitrogen fertilizer application, low utilization efficiency, and severe nitrogen loss. The use of efficiency-enhanced nitrogen fertilizers, such as controlled-release fertilizer and that containing nitrification inhibitor etc. normally increases nitrogen use efficiency, yet this might have limited economic benefits due to high costs although its benefits in term of ecology and human health could be foreseen.
