Does social contact lessen perceived cultural distance? Evidence from tourist–host social contact

Abstract: •The study developed and validated the measurement of social contact.•It also refined the measurement of perceived cultural distance.•Quality of contact had a negative effect on perceived cultural distance.•Effects of different quantity of contacts were revealed.•Implications contributed to the theoretical and empirical realms.
