Importance of family for individual tourist satisfaction

María-Mercedes Rojas-de-Gracia and Pilar Alarcón-Urbistondo

Annals of Tourism Research, 2020, vol. 85, issue C

Abstract: The need to study tourist satisfaction at a group level has been identified by the recent literature. In this sense, although the positive effects that shared satisfaction has on the individual satisfaction of the family members has been suggested on many occasions, in our study it is empirically demonstrated. Another contribution of this paper to the study of group satisfaction is the inclusion in the analysis of family characteristics. For these purposes, a sample of 375 questionnaire triads, completed separately by three members of the same family, was used. Interviews were also conducted with 12 families. The conclusions highlight the importance for parents of the satisfaction shared by the whole family, while for children the determining variable was traveling abroad.
