Children and Youth Services Review, 2024, vol. 161, issue C

Abstract: The aim of this review was to discover the effects of video prompting on learning new skills among people with severe disabilities. We systematically searched four databases: APA PsycINFO, Academic Search Complete, Social Work Abstracts, and ERIC. Data were collected on experimental designs, participants’ demographic background, types of skills taught, characteristics of the video prompting, implementer roles and settings, dependent measures, maintenance and generalization, and success estimates. We identified 16 peer-reviewed studies published in English between 1992 and 2022. Findings of this review indicated that video prompting was an effective strategy across the studies to improve work, academic, and functional skills. Video prompting also improved maintenance and generalization of the assigned tasks. We discussed the findings to provide investigators and professionals with some recommendations for further studies.
