Associations of secondary victimization and social reactions with PTSD symptoms among young adult female survivors of sexual assault in South Korea

Jungtae Choi, Jae-Won Kim and Kihyun Kim

Children and Youth Services Review, 2026, vol. 180, issue C

Abstract: Although secondary victimization (SV) and negative social reactions (NSRs) are known adverse social factors for sexual assault victims, limited research explores their link to victims’ post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) based on sexual assault characteristics. This study addresses this gap by using a person-centered approach to identify distinct profiles of sexual assault characteristics and their experiences of SV and NSRs vis-à-vis the level of PTSD symptoms.
