Abstract:
•FCA experience various barriers and challenges in higher education settings. Despite these, many go on to achieve postsecondary educational success, are optimistic, resilient, and resourceful.•Factors associated with college retention and graduation among FCA include supports such as those offered through broad independent living preparation (e.g., academic skills training, housing, employment, money management).•Recommendations for practice, research, and policy include improving cross-system collaboration, enhancing financial support and wrap around services for FCA, focusing on resilience and strengths, and conducting more rigorous, longitudinal research.
