The influence of supply chain digitalization on enterprise ESG performance: A quasi-natural experiment based on pilot policies for supply chain innovation and application

Abstract:
This paper takes Chinese A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2022 as the research sample and uses the difference-in-differences model to analyze the impact of supply chain digitization on corporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance and its mechanism. The study finds that supply chain digitization significantly improves corporate ESG performance. Heterogeneity analysis finds that supply chain digitization has a more significant role in improving ESG performance in state-owned enterprises, high-tech industries, and enterprises with a low level of risk-taking. Mechanism analysis shows that supply chain digitization improves corporate ESG performance by promoting green technology innovation and increasing supply chain information transparency. Further analysis reveals that there is a negative moderating effect of the supply chain innovation and application pilot policy in the process of the impact of enterprise digital transformation on enterprise ESG performance.This paper expands the relevant research on supply chain digitization and provides strong empirical evidence and inspiration for promoting the development of corporate ESG from the perspective of digital empowerment.
