The impact of 1998 Massachusetts gun laws on suicide: A synthetic control approach

Abstract: In 1998 Massachusetts enacted nearly two dozen gun laws. Using the synthetic control method, we find evidence that these laws led to reduced overall suicide rates for several years, and a sustained reduction in suicides carried out with a firearm.
