A simple test of a simple legal model

Tobias Hlobil

Economics Letters, 2019, vol. 184, issue C

Abstract: This paper formulates and tests a simple version of the legal model of judicial decision-making using data from the Dutch Supreme Court over 2013–2018. The contribution of this paper to the literature is a test of the legal model using observational data that does not rely on specific extra legal factors. The paper concludes that the simple legal model cannot be rejected for the Netherlands.
