Assessing contributions of volunteer tourism to ecosystem research and conservation in southern Africa

Abstract: •We provide data on 2,085 volunteer tourists that visited southern Africa.•We present 8 years of conservation outputs from Mozambique and Swaziland projects.•Our results validate a previously developed conservation evaluation framework.•Volunteer tourism can deliver conservation benefits but these need evaluating.
