Abstract: •Effects of watershed development on ecosystem services (ES) were assessed, along with resulting bio-physical changes, and externalities.•Extent of underestimation of economic worth of ES, when not including other than provisioning services, is computed.•Comprehensive ecosystem services assessments and their economic valuation are critically important in determining the potential impact of watershed development.•Estimated value of the economic incentives to the watershed farmers for conserving the natural resources is $229 ha−1.
