Abstract:
Energy transition, net-zero goals, and climate change are important discussions that should be had alongside energy security by any oil and gas-rich country. Libya is rich in oil and gas and dependent on oil and gas for energy sources, and revenues amongst others. The East-West ceasefire that was reached over a while ago has become a monumental achievement for the country and has somewhat made it possible for the path toward the country's first-ever presidential election to be laid. As the country with the largest oil and gas reserve in Africa, energy transition becomes a crucial subject – leading the decarbonisation in the continent would be laudable. We looked at some recommendations that the Libyan government could take on board in the energy transition and potential difficulties. While aiming to achieve its energy security objectives.
