A review on IPO withdrawal

Pia Helbing

International Review of Financial Analysis, 2019, vol. 62, issue C, 200-208

Abstract: This study reviews and analyses the empirical and theoretical literature on IPO withdrawal. VOSviewer techniques are used to identify relationships of citations, authorship, themes and patterns of the research conducted in this area. My perspective on the current state of IPO withdrawal research is threefold. First, I believe that the phenomenon of IPO withdrawal is not specific to a country, jurisdiction or vintage. Second, considering its economic significance, there is a surprising scarcity of research on IPO withdrawal. Third, existing research predominantly focuses on market level determinants which do not fully explain IPO withdrawal. I argue that promising research will come from non-rational and agency conflict based explanations.
