Finance Research Letters, 2022, vol. 50, issue C

Abstract: This paper investigates whether Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) value target firm's ESG engagement when making investment decisions. Using CSR scores as a measurement for ESG engagement, we find robust evidence that SWFs are more likely to invest in firms with a higher CSR score. Furthermore, firms with higher CSR scores attract more SWFs to invest. Our study identifies a possible determinant in the investment decision making process of SWFs.
