Digital banking and deposit: Substitution effect of mobile applications on web services

Lei Wu, Dongli Yu and Yongbin Lv

Finance Research Letters, 2023, vol. 56, issue C

Abstract: The objective of this study is to scrutinize the influence of digital transformation on the scale of bank deposits in the banking industry. One potential explanation for this phenomenon is that the advent of m-banking can lead to a decrease in the inclination of customers to actively seek out services on web. In addition, the effect of m-banking on deposit is subject to considerable regional variation, which is influenced by the level of internet and mobile technology adoption. This implies that technological infrastructure and access to digital resources play in shaping the success of m-banking as a transformative financial service.
