Abstract:
We examine whether and how risk-taking in the stock market affects future divorce rates. Using Chinese stock trading data and provincial divorce data, we find that risk-taking in the stock market significantly increases future divorce rates. Further analysis concludes that risk-taking positively affects future divorce rates by increasing wealth shocks. Our findings suggest that economic-financial activities have a large impact on real-world issues.
