Finance Research Letters, 2025, vol. 76, issue C

Abstract: Using data from Chinese publicly listed companies from 2012 to 2022, this study examines the relationship among breakthrough technological innovation, market competition, and corporate competitive advantage. Findings suggest that breakthrough technological innovation and market competition enhance corporate competitive advantage. Furthermore, market competition plays a mediating role in the relationship between groundbreaking technological innovation and firms’ competitive advantage, displaying heterogeneity between state-owned and private enterprises. Market competition exerts a threshold effect on firms’ competitive advantage.
