The influence of 'Bond Connect' on corporate real earnings management

Shihan Zhang

Finance Research Letters, 2025, vol. 77, issue C

Abstract: This study examines the impact of the initiation of the "Bond Connect" program on the level of real earnings management among China's A-share listed companies using data from 2013 to 2022. The results indicate that the launch of "Bond Connect" significantly reduces the extent of real earnings management practices among these firms. The influx of foreign investors through "Bond Connect" has increased international scrutiny of China's A-share listed companies, enhancing the quality of information disclosure and intensifying oversight of their real earnings management activities.
