Abstract:
This study uses China’s national independent innovation demonstration zones as a quasi-natural experiment and applies a multi-time-point difference-in-differences model for empirical analysis. Results show that regional independent innovation significantly boosts the development potential of the local esports industry. It stimulates this industry’s growth by promoting local industrial structure upgrading. However, the impact varies across regions with different levels of urban R&D vitality, government governance capacity, and internet penetration.
