Abstract:
The study examines the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve for the forest product footprint in India. Based on the Autoregressive Distributive Lag Model and its non-linear version, we show that India has an N-shaped forest product footprint-induced environmental Kuznets curve. By employing the necessary and sufficient conditions, we show the existence of two real and distinct per capita Gross Domestic Product turning points. The study predicts the out-of-sample turning points using the average annual per capita growth rate and warns about a rise in forest product footprint by 2023. The government of India must, therefore, take pre-emptive measures for the protection of forests.
