Green energy indices & financial markets: An in-depth look

Capucine Nobletz

International Economics, 2022, vol. 171, issue C, 80-109

Abstract: This paper builds a new database on green energy stock indices, over the 2006–2020 period. We show that green energy indices follow different patterns than benchmark stock indices. Moreover, only a few firms simultaneously compose the green and benchmark indices. This could be an indication that the current leading financial indices might not be structured to finance a low-emissions economy.
