Abstract:
New England Merchants Leasing Corporation, a subsidiary of a bank bolding company, has recently completed the development of a comprehensive computer-based financial planning model. In the present article we discuss the specific requirements for long-range planning in the leasing industry, and the conceptual and technical framework within which the planning model attempts to address these requirements. We identify a number of general characteristics of the leasing industry that are conducive to the success of computer-based systems, in order that the reader may judge the extent to which these characteristics extend to other industries.
