Energy modelling in practice: an application of spatial programming

Peter M Meier

Omega, 1982, vol. 10, issue 5, 483-491

Abstract: This paper is focused on the practical aspects of energy modelling through the presentation of a case study involving spatial programming to analyze the problems of electric utilities in the northeastern United States. Emphasis is on the resolution of client-analyst problems in the context of a series of real world policy problems to which the model was applied. Attention is also given to the conceptual problems of applying linear programming techniques to location problems where capacity expansion takes the form of discrete rather than continuous units.
