Abstract:
Uncertainties in consumer demand, and constraints on the production process made the scheduling of tirage champagne difficult at Penfolds, to the extent that their inventories of maturing and finished product stock were much higher than desirable. Time staged linear programming models were developed to analyse this problem, and to develop a technique for smoothing production and thereby reducing stock levels. These models, together with a spreadsheet implementation, will be discussed.
