Abstract: •A critical assessment reveals conceptual flaws in the proposed coal waste reuse framework.•The study lacks robust mineralogical characterization and adequate sampling procedures.•Geochemical risks, such as acid mine drainage and leaching potential, were overlooked.•The reuse of coal waste in construction materials raises unresolved environmental concerns.•A more rigorous methodological and economic feasibility analysis is urgently needed.
