Resources Policy, 2019, vol. 64, issue C

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the relationship between economic growth and natural gas consumption for the years of 1983–2017 in Turkey. The existence of causality relationship for the whole analysis period is examined using the causality test developed by Hacker and Hatemi-J (2006). The empirical results indicated no causal relationship between the variables for the whole period of 1983–2017. However, time-varying causality analysis carried out for the sub-periods indicated that unidirectional causal relationship running from natural gas consumption to economic growth for the periods of 1996–2010, 1997–2011 and 2001–2015 period, and from economic growth to natural gas consumption for 2000–2014 time period.
