Social and environmental activities in the Polish mining region in the context of CSR

Abstract: This article presents an analysis of the issue of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of the planned launching of the polish open pit lignite mine in the area of Złoczew municipality on the basis of the research method of surveying, implemented among the residents of this territory. The article commences with a short introduction to the topic, whereby a definition of corporate social responsibility was included and, furthermore, the key assumptions and goals of this concept, based on subject literature review, were indicated. In the subsequent part, also the overall objective and scope of the carried out survey test on the group of inhabitants of the town and municipality of Złoczew were pointed out, the analysis of which constitutes the key part of the article. Within the chapter devoted to materials and methods a description of the research method applied as well as the manner of research implementation were included. The analysis of results obtained in the course of surveying as well as their detailed description and interpretation according to various criteria (results and discussion) constitutes the most critical part of the article. Opinions of the surveyed inhabitants regarding the planned creation of lignite open pit mine within the territory of the municipality were presented, further to the knowledge of the inhabitants of the topic of possible benefits stemming from the launch of extractive actions for the municipality and for the stakeholders. Furthermore, the relationship between the inhabitants and “compensation” for the use of municipal lands through prosocial and pro-environment actions were noted as well as those that would need to be subjected to the most significant support. The most significant conclusions coming from the carried out surveying along with an analysis of obtained results were presented in conclusions.
