Abstract:
The debate over the sustainability of mineral resource trade remains a topic of discussion among scholars, primarily due to its potential positive impact on mitigating the threats posed by climate change. This study delves into the dual influences of the COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable economic growth on mineral resource trade in 20 developing and 20 developed countries from 2000 to 2021, employing the CS-ARDL technique. The findings indicate a substantial negative effect of the pandemic on mineral resource trade, particularly pronounced in developed economies owing to intricate global supply chains. Furthermore, green energy consumption contributes to a reduction in mineral resource trade, especially notable in developed nations, reflecting their commitment to sustainability. The policy implications encompass the exploration of green cryptocurrencies, the implementation of post-COVID-19 green recovery plans, improvement of social literacy, regulation of green foreign direct investment, and facilitation of the import of green components.
