Mineral resource management in Chinese rural areas: Policy assessment for green economic growth

Abstract: This study assesses the influence of metallic and non-metallic resource efficiency on the sustainable development of rural areas in China, utilizing data spanning from 1989 to 2021. The findings of the analysis uncover nuanced effects, indicating short-term positive impacts on economic prosperity juxtaposed with prolonged environmental degradation. Striking a balance between economic development and sustainable resource management emerges as a critical imperative. The study highlights the challenge posed by inflation rates to environmentally sustainable practices in rural areas, while simultaneously recognizing agricultural production as a catalyst for green growth. Detrimental impacts associated with government investments underscore the necessity to prioritize environmentally sustainable initiatives. Practical policies for fostering rural green growth in China should concentrate on promoting efficient resource utilization in the short term, and precision farming. Long-term strategies must address environmental degradation through regulatory measures, incentives for sustainable practices, and investments in alternative materials and approaches.
