Abstract:
•Analysis of hybridization potential with solar PV for 132 diesel-based grids in the Philippines.•Energy demand scenarios considered: (0) status quo (1) 24 h supply (2) 10 year load growth.•Optimized renewable energy share of 25% with diesel fuel savings of 230 million liters annually.•Cost-optimized renewable energy shares can rise up to 55% at high diesel prices.•Hybridization with renewable energy supports SDG7 target and resiliency.
